Ramón Aguiló

Born in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, Ramon studied German philology before moving to Bremen, Germany, in 2000 to complete his studies. Since then, he has made Bremen his home.

A deep passion for classic cinema formed Ramon’s artistic vision. He draws inspiration from German expressionist directors like Fritz Lang and F.W. Murnau, as well as iconic filmmakers such as Orson Welles, John Ford, Stanley Kubrick, Woody Allen, and European auteurs like Luis Buñuel, Ingmar Bergman, and Federico Fellini. This cinematic influence naturally led Ramon to photography—initially as a creative outlet, but soon as a serious artistic pursuit.

In 2021, Ramon began focusing on street photography as a way to step out of his comfort zone and explore the subtle beauty of everyday life. Influenced by the rich palettes and layered compositions of Saul Leiter, Alex Webb, and Harry Gruyaert, his work reflects a deep sensitivity to color, light, and shadow.

Like many others, I discovered Ramon’s work through a recommendation from another photographer. From the very first image, I was struck by his ability to blend aesthetics with storytelling. His photos not only showcase his keen eye for composition but also serve as a cultural bridge—merging the vibrant warmth of Spain with the atmospheric cool of Germany.

In one of his standout images, for example, a Carhartt store sign appears subtly in the corner, lending the frame an unexpected Detroit vibe—just one of many layered details that make his work so compelling. Hope you enjoy this selection. Love, Javi
